Brunch with Bob

From time to time it’s nice to go out for brunch on a weekend rather than preparing your own breakfast at home. Helsinki offers a whole lot of good opportunities for that.

One of them that opened recently is Dylan Milk. It’s run by the people that run Dylan at Arabianranta successfully already for years. And also the new place in Ruoholahti knows how to convince with quality.
Especially if you are into salads this is the place for you. More than ten different fresh salads such as pasta-chicken, salmon-fish-row-potato and many more are awaiting you here. But of course also classics like cereals, scrambled eggs, sausages and everything else you desire for a good brunch are there. They also have delicious deserts. Keep that in mind and leave some space for them.

Dylan Milk is spacious and furnished simple and modern. It is also an ideal place for families with small children. There is a playing corner with a TV just for the little ones. The brunch is open Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 till 14:00. The buffet is 16 € for adults, children from 4 till 10 pay half and for the youngest ones it is even for free.

Enjoy your brunch and have a nice weekend!

The art of mixing cocktails

Thank God it’s Friday! After a long week you should reward yourself with a good cocktail at a nice place in the center of Helsinki.

For that you should come to A21 Cocktail Lounge. This stylish bar on Annankatu offers some of the best drinks in town. And this is even proven. They were listed as one of the world’s best bars. And their cocktails are just amazing. Take your time to browse through their list of drinks. It might take you a while to make a decision. Maybe try one of their all time favorites – the birch cooler (yes, referring to the tree). Or just let the friendly staff help you with your choice. They’ll be happy to give you a recommendation based on your preferences.

Some drinks might take a little longer to prepare. Those are marked with a clock on the list. But be patient. They are worth waiting for. Meanwhile you can observe the bars tenders preparing the drinks. It’s quite impressive to watch.

Luckily the bar is named after its address (Annankatu 21). Since it’s hard to identify it as a bar from outside, the number will help you. To get in you have to ring the door bell. The doorman will be there right away to let you in and take your coats. On weekends this place might be quite packed. So especially if you are in a big group you should consider reserving a table.

For everyone who is into cocktail this place is a must. Enjoy and have a nice weekend!

Nokia Lumia 920 is here!

Today at 0:01 the first Nokia Lumias 920 were sold in Finland. People queued yesterday in front of the Verkkokauppa.com store in Jatkasaari to get one of the first phones. The demand is so high that not even all preorders could be served.

But Nokia is doing its best to get more on the market as soon as possible. The so called “most innovative smartphone in the world” can be ordered at every electronics store for 599 €. Or try it out yourself first at Nokia’s flagship store in the center on Aleksanterinkatu.

More details on the Lumia 920 – like its amazing new camera, wireless charging and more – can be found from the official website.

Hand-made beer from the Åland Islands

Between Finland and Sweden lays an archipelago called the Åland Islands. Being part of Finland the roughly 28.000 inhabitants of this autonomous group of islands speak Swedish instead of Finnish. For main land Finns the people of Åland appear somewhat strange and alien.

If you don’t plan on visiting those remote islands in the middle of the Baltic Sea in the near future there is still a way to get a taste of Åland though. The micro brewery Stallhagen produces some really nice bear that is exported to Sweden and Finland. If you get the chance you should try it. The beer from this small traditional brewery is hand-made as they say and fits perfectly with some nice food.

Skol!
