Fresh and local

It’s Saturday! Finally! Time to relax but also to do the things you haven’t had time for during the week. Probably also some grocery shopping.

Hakaniemen Kaupphalli

Why not make it an experience? Take your time to walk through Hakaniemen Kauppahalli. At the almost 100 year old market hall you find over 70 small shops. No matter if you are searching for a butcher, bakery, gourmet food or cheese shop, you’ll find it all. And you support local producers. At Hakaniemen Kauppahalli you get fresh food and even some ingredients you won’t get anywhere else.

Enjoy your weekend!

Groceries and a coffee break

A very popular place for groceries and finding a Finnish souvenier is the kauppatori at the end of Esplanadi. Unfortunately the crows of tourists and the central location have a big impact on the price level there.

A good alternative is the market in Hakaniemi. This is the place where the locals prefer to go. Fruit and vegetables are way cheaper here and if you want to have a short break from the shopping and like to enjoy the market atmosphere just stop by at one of the café tents and get reasonably prices coffee and some Finnish pastry.

Next to the market square you find the Hakaniemi Kauppahalli. It is comparable to the one at the Esplanadi. The interior is just not quite as nice. Still you find a big variety of groceries and might even be lucky to get some good deals.

Both markets are open from Monday to Saturday. Find more information on their website.
