Taste of Helsinki

Imagine picking your own dream menu with dishes from the best restaurants in Helsinki. That is exactly what Taste of Helsinki is about. It is the largest gourmet and wine festival in Finland and takes place from June 13 till 16.

Top restaurants like Demo, Gajin, Juuri and many more offer each three signature dishes. It’s up to you to combine them the way you like.

You can book a certain session (lunch or dinner) for one of the days. With special coupons (markka) you can then buy the different dishes. Tickets for the event are for sale online or at the gate. Better get your ticket in advance though.

What should it be?

You like cooking and have a recipe that requires some special ingredients? On your last vacation you found a local really exotic fruit and have a craving for it now? Or you just want to get some really good steaks for dinner?

No matter what you are searching for, if one place in Helsinki has it then it is Stockmann Herkku. The deli department of Finland’s biggest warehouse has almost anything you can wish for. You can spend hours there just browsing through the huge variety of fresh products from all over the world.

In case you don’t find what you are looking for or have a question concerning their products, don’t hesitate to ask the friendly staff. Most of them are fluent in several languages and are happy to help you. You find Stockmann Herkku on the -1 level of Stockmann at Mannerheimintie.

Bon appétit!

Delicious Finland

You’d like to try food from all the different parts of Finland and like to find out what Finnish cuisine has to offer between Uusimaa and Lappland? Then you should head to Herkkujen Suomi (Delicacies of Finland) this weekend.

It is a food fair on Rautatientori where farmers and small companies present their products to the public. Every tent represents one area of Finland. You can try samples or buy whole meals.

Take your time to wander around all the stands and try some of the delicious and mainly homemade food.  You also find a beer tent where several Finnish microbreweries have their best beers on tap.

Herkkujen Suomi is open today and tomorrow throughout the day and the entrance is free.

Enjoy!
