Bright evenings are back
Spring is coming to Helsinki. Now also the meteorologists confirmed that the cold time of the year is over. In fact this March has been much warmer then what is normal for Finland.
Enjoy the sunny weekend with some beautiful sunsets.

Let it snow
After a mild December and a few freezing days last week it is time for the snow now. Just throughout the last two days Helsinki got some additional 15 cm and is covered under a thick white layer.
And more snow is to come today throughout the whole day. So rather leave your car at home and calculate some extra time for traveling anywhere. Even though Helsinki's public transport is well prepared, a few delays can't be avoided. Detailed information on delays and cancelations can be found on HSL's website.
Have a nice and snowy day!

Walk through Christmassy Helsinki
Christmas Eve is only one day away. Most of you hopefully started their Christmas vacation already. A great way to get into the Christmas mood and leave all the work and present buying stress from the last days and weeks behind is a walk through the streets of the city. Now everything is enlightened with thousands of small Christmas lights.
Especially Esplanadi and Aleksanterintie are worth a stroll. Have a nice walk!

As dark as it gets
Yes, it is quite dark these days in Finland. You probably also go to work when it is still dark and come back long after sunset. But good news, it doesn't get darker than this anymore. Tomorrow is the shortest day of the year and then we'll get a bit more daylight every day.
So hang in there and put up a few candles to at least make it bright inside. Have a nice week!

Singing to Sibelius' honor
Yesterday the famous Finnish composer Jean Sibelius would have celebrated his 150th birthday. To his honor hundreds of Helsinkians came to the Senat Square to sing his piece Finlandia together.
And just in time the sun even came out. Watch the impressive video on Yle.

Red sky
Now the November as we know it in Helsinki has really started. The sun only comes out occasionally, it's wet and getting colder. The northern part of Finland already got the first snow. But from time to time, when the clouds move away during the evening hours, the sky glows in the most amazing colors.
Have a nice weekend despite the grey November weather. And let's hope for a few rays of sun in between.

Brighter mornings
For those of you who missed it, last night the clocks were set back by one hour. Now we are back to standard time which means that Finland is in the GMT+2 time zone again.
That means from now on the mornings are going to be a little brighter again (at least for a while). And even better, this Sunday has 25 hours. So enjoy the long free day before going back to work tomorrow!

Northern lights
Did you see this week's northern lights (or aurora borealis)? They were caused by a strong sun storm and were visible all the way down to Helsinki.
Even in the city the green and even yellow and red lights were painting the night sky. And amazing natural light show.
But if you missed it don't worry, the next northern lights will come for sure.
