Red sky

Now the November as we know it in Helsinki has really started. The sun only comes out occasionally, it's wet and getting colder. The northern part of Finland already got the first snow. But from time to time, when the clouds move away during the evening hours, the sky glows in the most amazing colors.

Enjoy today's sunny weather before we have a rainy week ahead. Maybe with a cup of coffee or a walk along the sea. Along Kaivopuisto you can watch the boats pass by before the boat owners slowly start taking them out of the water.

Slush 2014

The biggest startup event in Northern Europe starts again today. Over 12.000 visitors from around the world come to Slush at Messukeskus Helsinki to see what's on in the Nordic startup scene.

Tickets to sold out already and anyway way too expensive for private visitors. But you can still get an idea of Slush. Tonight Apollo hosts the Slush Grand Opening Party. And it is open to everyone. So check it out and meet entrepreneurs, investors, journalists and the organizers.

The party starts tonight at 21.00. Slush continues until Wednesday.

Sunny mornings

It doesn't happen too often around this time of the year in Helsinki but when the sun comes out in the morning it is even more impressive. This week we had two of those sunny mornings.

First Christmas lights

Have you seen the first Christmas lights in the city center? They are now iluminating the dark fall evenings and nights.

Especially the big shopping centers are well decorated already. Have a look yourself!

The sun probably won't be shining today. A Father's Day walk along the sea might anyway be nice.

Thanks to the end of the daylight saving time we can all get up one hour later. This also makes the mornings a bit brighter again.

First signs of winter

This morning Helsinki woke up with a slight white cover. The first light snow fell last night. 

 

But this most likely doesn't mark the beginning of winter. Temperatures are forecasted to rise again towards the weekend. But it shows that the cold time of the year is close.

Sunny and cold

After the first minus temeratures during the last nights the sun is out today and it is perfect weather to enjoy the Saturday.

End of season at Lintsi

The time for outdoor amusement park visits is coming to an end. And this weekend Linnanmäki celebrates the end of the season with the traditional Carinival of Light (Valokarnevaali). 

From today till Sunday you can still use all the rides at Linnanmäki. During the evening the whole park is illuminated with all kinds of different colors. And even if you are not into rides at all it is worth to just wander around in the park.

Also during the Carnival of Light Linnanmäki has a full program and lots of great live music shows on stage. As always the entrance as well as the admission to the gigs is for free.

Check it out and don't miss the big end of season fireworks on Sunday evening! Today they open at 17.00. On Saturday and Sunday the park is open from 13.00-22.00.

Colored leaves

The leaves have changed their color. Now brown, yellow and red dominates the Finnish nature. But the fall beauty won't stay for long. The first leaves already start falling.

So if you want to enjoy the beautiful fall scenery, head out into the woods for a nice Sunday walk today.

The Christmas chocolate is already here

Yes, it's already time. The supermarkets have put the Christmas chocolates, candies and sweets on the shelves. This will of course annoy some. But if you plan on travelling abroad or are just here as a visitor at the moment you now have the chance to already take some of the good stuff with you. Maybe as a nice souvenir or for your Christmas abroad.

Weekend, sunshine!

After a cold and rainy week the weather got nice again just in time for the weekend. For the upcoming days sunshine and temperatures around 15 degrees have been predicted.

Fall is here

The leaves are starting to change their color and to fall. Now the colder time of the year starts. Northern and Eastern Finland thave even had the first snow already.

The good news is that after a cold and rainy week the weekend seems to get much warmer and sunnier again.

Night is falling

The days are getting shorter again. But the good thing is that this also brings the city lights back. And due to the beautiful September weather we get to see some beautiful sunsets with amazing colors in the sky.

A walk through the park
