Primula goes Skiffer

After being closed for a while the new renovated Primula opened again a couple of weeks ago. The renewed place comes also with a new concept.

Ravintola Primula

Half of the location was turned into the Old Skiffer, a new gin bar by the owners of the Skiffer restaurants. The other half remained Primula which still offers delicious modern Scandinavian food which is now complemented with the famous Skiffer liuskas (pizzas).

Pay it a visit and dine in a stylish yet cozy sail style ambiance. And if you are still up for it, head over for a perfect gin or Skiffer's own brewed beer at the Old Skiffer next door.

Or go check out Primula for their brunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Real Italian pizza

Would you be up for a delicious handmade crispy stoneoven pizza with fresh ingredients from Italy? Then come to Fornitaly.

Fornitaly pizza backery

This tiny pizza backery is located in a former barn in Jollas quite a while away from the center. Here the guys from Fornitaly who are mainly Italian sell pizza straights from the oven to take away. But they are only open for a couple of hours each week.

You can get you Italian pizza Fridays from 16.00 - 20.00 and Saturdays between 13.00 and 19.00. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Pizza and bar in the center

Some say it's the only real Italian pizza place in Helsinki. Others just go there for the athmosphere. Putte's is a nice and very centrally located pizzeria in Kalevankatu.

Pizza at Putte in Helsinki

You won't find any fancy pizza topping like at Skiffer here but if you are more into the standards like salami, funghi and margherita this is definately the place to go.

It's also a nice hangout for a beer or wine after work and since it's so spacious you should always be able to find a table (at least during the week).

More space at Skiffer

Skiffer on Liuskaluota is one of the must-go places in Helsinki during the summer. They have the best pizza and one of the top summer terraces in the city. And since this year their terrace got bigger.

Liuska and wine at Skiffer

Anyway I highly recommend coming their early if you want to get a table. Be there around five if you want to have dinner at Skiffer.

Skiffer goes Downtown

Skiffer at Liuskasaari is one of the most beautiful places you can find in Helsinki in the summer. Sitting next to the sea in the sun you can enjoy your drink together with a delicious Liuska (pizza).

But when the days get shorter again and the first cold wind arrives at the coast of Helsinki Skiffer closes its summer terrace to open again in spring. This is not just sad because it is a sign that winter is close at hand but also because there is no place to get Liuska for several months.

But the good news is that a new Skiffer just opened this Saturday in the center of Helsinki at Erottaja. Here you can now get all the amazing Liuskas you know from Liuskasaari and some more all winter through. And the team did their best to also give you some of the summer and sea atmosphere indoors at their new place.
Skiffer Ravintola Erottaja is definitely worth a visit. Try for example the FG with duck liver, figs, duck filet and mustard seeds or Fishermen’s Friend with small fish, smoked salmon, fish roe and egg.

Enjoy! It’s definitely the best pizza in town!

Pizza on the island

This is definately one of the places you have to visit during summer. Skiffer on Liuskaluoto is originally just a gas station for boats. They expanded their service though and opened a bar. Here you don’t just get drinks but can also order pizza or liuska, how they call it.

And believe me, their pizza is amazing. One of the best if not even the best in Helsinki. Check out their menu on their website.

But even though the food is great the best thing about Skiffer is its location. Liuskaluota is an island next to Uunisaari. During the summer you just get there by boat. A small ferry takes you there for 5 € (return ticket). From the terrace you have a great view over Kaivopuisto and Eira and can watch the boats entering and leaving the harbor. On a warm and sunny summer day it is so nice that you don’t even want to leave anymore. And luckily they are open till 22.00 on the weekend. That means that you can stay there till the sun goes down.

This place is a must! Enjoy it!

A classic

You are too lazy for cooking today? Well, it’s Sunday. Who can blame you? For a lazy and maybe a bit hangoverish Sunday a pizza would be fantastic, wouldn’t it? But you still want to have a little style and get out of the house for it?

In that case you should try Classic Pizza. The pizza chain is normally located in shopping centers. It has a decent atmosphere, nice staff, good prices and most important really good pizza. It’s a treat for everyone that likes Italian pizza with crispy, thin dough and delicious toppings.

And if it was a long night yesterday then there is one pizza that fits this occasion exceptionally well: Pizza Hangover (with hot salsa sauce, mozzarella cheese, salami, bacon, pickled cucumbers and jalapeno).

Go to their website and check out their menu or find out where the nearest restaurant is

World’s Best Pizza

Did you know that according to America’s Plate International Pizza Competition the best pizza in the world is sold by the Finnish pizza chain Kotipizza?

And there is actually a funny story behind the award winning pizza: Having visited Finland the former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi complained about the horrible Finnish cuisine and how it would in no way be comparable to Italian food. To make fun of him Kotipizza created a rye pizza with smoked reindeer and named it after Berlusconi. In 2008 the pizza won the title “Best Pizza in the Word” winning against a competing pizza from Italy.

But apart from Berlusconi they also have some other really good pizzas. Try for example their BBQ Kotzone or the amazingly delicious Burgerpizza.
