Charge your batteries

You need a short break and not just your own but also your smart phone’s battery needs to be charged? Then keep your eyes open for one of those nice chairs.

As part of the World Design Capital 2012 the Finnish companies UPM, Martela, Fortum, Karelia-Upofloor and Clear Channel started the project Suvanto. At Helsinki-Vantaa airport but also at Forum Shopping Center they put up those comfortable chairs that invite you for a break and a quiet moment in the middle of your hectic day. Next to every Suvanto chair you also find electric plug-ins where you can charge the batteries of your mobile electronic devices.

So escape the stress for a while and take a break!

The new Java

After long a long renovations Java at Lasipalatsi opened again.  But the concept of the place has changed completely. Java is not a café anymore but now puts its focus on drinks and salty meals.

The new place is called Java Bar & Bistro. Already during its times as a café you were able to get a cocktail or long drink from the bar. Now Java got rid of all its pastry and expanded its collection of drinks instead. And there is also an obvious visible change. The look was completely renewed and the outdated interior was replaced.

Java also has affordable lunch offers and is now also a place to have dinner at. Of course you can still enjoy the great view over one of Helsinki’s busiest crossroads while holding a cool drink in your drink.

Von A bis Z

European cultures are all so similar, right? What is for example the big difference between Finland and Germany? There can’t be that many things that differ.

Well, now you can find out. Till September 26th the Goethe Institut invites you to “Deutschland für Anfänger”. In this multimedia-based exhibition you can find out more about Germany, its culture, its history, its politics and of course its people and their habits. Lots of different topics are covered – one for each letter of the alphabet.

The exhibition is open from Mon – Fri 9.00 – 18.00 and Sat 10.00 – 16.00. You can find it on Lasipalatsin aukio and the entrance is for free.
