Finnish delicacies at the airport

Some Finnish delicacies are always a nice gift to bring when visiting people abroad. But then it easily gets too late to still make it to the city center. Luckily Helsinki Vantaa Airport is well equiped. And it even has a small Stockmann shop.

Stockmann at Helsinki Airport

Here you find everything that works well as a nice souvenir from Finland. Get e.g. some Salmiakki, Fazer Chocolate or some reindeer salami. Check it out at Terminal 2.

First real electronics store in the city center

It was one of the big downsides of the Helsinki city center. There was no big and well sorted electronics store in the city center. But those times are over. With the new lower level of Forum Gigantti finally came to the center.

Gigantti at Forum

Normally Gigantti can only be found in industrial areas outside the city and only be reached by car. The new one at Forum spreads across two levels though and has a pretty decent selection of electronics.

Check it out!

But did you know that you can also get most of Iittala's classic products at many bigger supermarkets? Prisma, K-Citymarket and also Antilla have Iittala shelfs where you can actually get the same products much cheaper.

Not only do they often have special offers. Also the regular prices are usually a few euros less. Take a look when you go to buy your groceries next time.

Kauppahalli is open again

One of Helsinki's most famous sights reopened. After long renovations Vanha Kauppahalli at Eteläranta finally opened its doors again last week.

Reopened Kauppahalli

The renewals were important to keep the old market hall in shape. It hasn't lost any of its character and still feels as it always did. The vendors are now slowly moving back in. So don't be surprised if you still see some booths closed.

Kauppahalli again offers high quality groceries and all together a genuine shopping experience. It is open Mondays through Saturdays from 8 to 18.00.

One big flea market

Tomorrow is Siivouspäivä (Cleaning Day). And that mean that the whole city transforms into a giant flea market.

Siivouspäivä 2013

You always wanted to get rid of that old lamp that just blocks the way in your small basement already for years? Well, this is your chance. Just put it out on the street and sell it. Siivouspäivä is a new tradition in Helsinki and everyone can join.

If you open your own sales spot, make sure to register it on the official website where you can also find more information on the event. That way people can more easily find you. And maybe you also find some neat stuff yourself.

Good luck and have fun!

The hidden Stockmann Outlet

It seems as if it disappeared. The Stockmann Outlet that was located at Keskuskatu is not visible anymore. But that doesn't mean it's gone.

new Nespresso shop at Keskuskatu

Just a few weeks ago a new Nespresso shop opened its doors where the outlet used to be. But if you enter the new shop you will find steps leading down to another store.

Hidden Stockmann Outlet

And that store is the Stockmann Outlet. There is no sign outside giving any hint that you can still find it here. Apparently Stockmann doesn't really want any customers there. But check it out. You might find really good deals here.

Smokin' hot advertisement

In most cases advertisements are just annoying. But sometimes they manage to surprise.

Like at Iso Omena shopping center in Espoo. Here they installed a completely new way to present advertisements. This machine makes smoke fall down vertically onto the escalators and projects the add onto the falling smoke. From afar it looks like a waterfall and it is funny to see people's reaction to it. Check it out if happen to be in the area. You have to take the escalators from the supermarkets down to the parking lot.

Got everything for Easter?

Maybe check your fridge and your cupboards if you still need something for the upcoming weekend. During the Easter holidays most shops and supermarkets are closed. Well, at least on Friday, Sunday and Monday. So there is still a chance on Saturday if you realize you forgot something.

Easter opening times

And then there is always still the K-Market inside Kamppi that is open every day of the year and can help you out if you figure out that something is still missing from your shopping list.

Have a wonderful Easter weekend!

A good deal

You are looking for some some new tech gadget? You don't have any specific product in mind but would like to pay a reasonable price? Then check out the reduced products at Verkkokauppa.com in Jätkäsaari. On the third floor in the audio and photo corner you find a corner with shelves filled really good offers. Many products have a damaged wrapping or similar. Technically they are all brand new though and you can save loads here.

Get a tablet for around 100 Euros less than the normal price. Or some cables you need for just a few Euros. The items are in no specific order. So you just have to make your way through all the shelves to find what you were looking for. But it might pay off.

Check it out and find some really good deals.

Flea market in Kattilahalli

Flea markets are quite popular in Finland. Around this time of the year they are of course much better held inside then on a square in the slush.
