Tomorrow's football heroes

The Euro Cup in Ukraine and Poland might be over. But for the smaller ones the important competition is just on. For the 37th time the Helsinki Cup takes place in the city. Every Finnish kid that played or plays football will most likely have participated in this competition at some point. But it’s also an international event. Young football teams from all over the world come to Finland for this event and give everything to win the much wanted cup.

800 teams compete in 2 500 matches to show how good and passionate they are about football. And that’s what it’s all about: Passion for sports and being part of the game.  Every team can join the Helsinki cup and everyone is welcome. The participants just have to be between 8 and 17 years old.

The competition started already on Monday and is still going on till Saturday. So if the weather is not too bad, walk down to the next football pitch and support the footballs stars of tomorrow.

The living room of Lauttasaari

You want to watch the Euro Cup games in a cozy pub with a great and unique atmosphere? Then Kaunis Kampela is the right place for you. Called the living room of Lauttasaari by the locals all the games are shown there on two big screens. The interior is quite simple with its wooden chairs that kind of remind you a bit of the ones you had in school. Really nice atmosphere though and friendly staff!

The variety of drinks is quite amazing for such a small place. They serve beer from all over the world. To get an overview take a look at the beer folders they have that explain where the beer comes from, how it tastes and maybe even what the history behind it is. Or just ask the bar tender. They are happy to help you.

The drinks are not that cheap though. If you plan on coming more often or already if you want to spend a longer evening there consider getting a membership card for 5 Euros that allows you to get the special offers from the black board on the wall. The offers change monthly and you get really good beer for a quite reasonable price of 5,50 €.

They also serve tasty snacks at Kaunis Kampela (which translated means "beautiful flatfish") till late in the night. During the weekend they close at 2 a.m.

A great place!

Creating History Together

Under this motto the Euro Cup 2012 starts today with the first game between Poland and Greece in Warsaw.

And there is good news for football fans. Unlike at the Ice Hockey Championships YLE, the national public broadcasting company hold the rights for the Euro 2012. You can watch all games for free on TV 1 or TV 2 and in HD on YLE HD. Furthermore YLE streams the games online on YLE Areena.

You can find all information on times and channels on their website.

Enjoy the games and may the best team win!
