Need new passport pictures?

Those small passport pictures are needed all the time. But unfortunately taking them is not that cheap normally.

At the moment Verkkokauppa.com has a really good offer though. Get six passport pictures for just 1.00 €. The offer is just valid Monday through Thursday from 9.00 till 16.00. You find the Verkkokauppa.com store at Länsisatama. You get there easily from the center by bus line 15 or tram line 9.

Deutsche Bäckerei

Did you know that there is a German bakery in Punavuori? Crustum is located on Pursimiehenkatu and offers anything you will also find in a good bakery in Germany. No matter if it’s delicious Graubrot, crunchy Krustenbrot or wonderful sweet pastry.

Crustum is also a café. So sit down, enjoy your pastry together with a reasonably priced coffee and listen to German radio and read German magazines at the same time. Crustum is run by a German family who managed to make this place original.

Come and try it out!

Almost always open

In Helsinki shops are open every day of the week. Also on Sundays you will find supermarkets, big stores and even lots of small boutiques open. Most places will close at six though on the weekend. And of course on National holidays like the upcoming Independence Day (Dec 6th) or Christmas you will find basically everything closed.

But there is an exception. The K-Supermarket at Kamppi Shopping center is open daily – no matter what day it is – till 22.00 and offers everything you need. So don’t worry whenever you forgot to prepare for a holiday.

The first snow in Helsinki

Tonight the snow came to Helsinki. The whole city was covered in white this morning. But most likely the snow won't stay for long. But it's a first reminder that winter is close ahead.

Have a nice weekend!

Dark mornings

The dark time of the year has arrived. In the morning at 7.00 it’s still pitch black and the sun just rises slowly over Helsinki. This is a picture from Punavuori around 8.00.

But there are still a few brighter mornings ahead. On the weekend Finland will switch to winter time. Don’t forget it!
